Hertz Rent-A-Car worth it with AAA CA?

To get the discount you need to be a member of AAA. Just having AAA insurance gets you nothing. That being said you need to get quotes for your rental period from several rental companies. Hertz tends to be the most expensive even with the AAA discount. If you shop around you could probably find bigger discounts even without being an AAA member.
