Connecting my ps3 to my monitor screen?

I have a L19W-9 fujitsu siemens computer monitor, it has only 1 input, VGA, I have bought a lead going from my ps3 to the VGA port, but the screen is black but says, that there are frequencys out of range - 15 khz to 50hz and to change the resolution to 1440 x 900 with 60 hertz, the monitor it self wont let me change that so i changed it on my laptop. I put my ps3 on a normal tv and made sure the output was component / d-terminal.the monitor says that the resolution is now at 1440 x 900 but it says below 55khz / 59hz so im guessing thats the problem, anyone got any idea to get round this? really annoying as the other tv in my house is really really bad and would prefer to sit in my computer chair and play games through my good speakers! thanks for any help
